Originally established in 1965 as NZ Veneers Ltd, the company was purchased in 1999 by Australia’s largest forest products company, Gunns Ltd. Gunns Ltd was founded in 1875 in Tasmania, Australia and today is a publicly owned company with a turnover in excess of AUD600 million. Gunns New Zealand is based in Christchurch in the middle of the South Island of New Zealand. We have an experienced and skilled team and pride ourselves on producing high quality wood veneers and working closely with our customers to add value to their business. Our primary export product is New Zealand Pine Veneer. The source of our wood veneer, New Zealand Pine trees grow extremely well in our temperate climate and fertile soils. New Zealand Pine Veneer yields a strong, versatile, light coloured veneer ideally suited to furniture manufacturing. The products even texture and relatively small difference in density allows it to be stained to look like other species and to accept clear finishes evenly. This enables our wood veneers to be used in a wide range of furniture styles and design. Gunns New Zealand has built strong relationships with timber suppliers to ensure adherence to our strict quality specifications and the supply of FSC certified timber. We are currently working with SmartWood and Agriquality to gain FSC Certification. All four Gunns veneer sites are members of the Decorative Wood Veneer Association of Australia, which focuses on best practice in the Veneer and Panel Industries.
